Fuel temp is only used by the PRVR system, which is only active for 30 seconds on hot starts. You can either completely remove PRVR, or force it to use coolant temperature instead of fuel temperature on startup. You'll also need to reprogram the ECU to disable the code 42 if you do unplug the sensor. I deleted the PRVR system in my car and now use the fuel-temp circuit as a clutch switch input to the ECU for no-lift shifting.
